Platform games also known as platformers are literally those online free games, where a playing character runs on some platform – ground, grass, steel, water, asphalt, dirt… Even if you’re not a long-playing gamer, you should know at least some loud names of these categories: Super Mario or Sonic. Simply because they are too famous to be not known.
As a rule, in platformers, the entire gaming process moves from left to right or, if looking from above, forward, and is divided into levels (which can be divided into various grounds, high and low parts, caves, tunnels, and anything other, where it is possible to run). During the progress, it is required to collect various items – coins, boosters, quest items, and keys to the next levels. As a rule, there is a need to consider the unevenness of the terrain, which shall be jumped over, ducked under, climbed at, flown over, or shall be overcome in some other manner. And a final part of platformers is made of enemies. They can be distributed through levels but can be left for the end of a level or having small bosses connected to only some major points on the level.
Some platformers are really hard to pass, for instance, about half of Mario games are tough. Others may be simple, where finishing is just about a matter of time, whilst you actually compete for the excellence of ending, not the fact of ending itself, by competing with other runners (bots, as a rule).
